OUGD501 / Practical / Crit scrawl

How could I develop my practical outcome further?

  • "More things like forms, posters etc need to be created in order to get a proper feel to what the surgery is like."
  • "For 'surreal' I would attempt to manipulate type and position more to create an uncomfortable, awkward feel to the design."
  • "I like the 'breast is best' poster, think of more humours things like this?"

Feedback?

  • "Try to include some more cheesy shapes similar to the heart?"
  • "The stretched / distorted type is successful - maybe take this further and think TACKY"
  • "I really like the theme and concept, the colours say medical, but have just enough awkwardness."
  • "I agree, really great colours and type choices - just need a wider range of designs / posters."

These were the main points said in the crit scrawl, I will take all this on board and create more collateral. Something else which was said a few times is that they weren't sure on what the era was, I took this as a good thing as it's not meant to reflect a specific era.

OUGD501 / Practical / Development / Doctors badge

After researching 90's graphic design and experimenting I have decided on inventing my own world in which the script will be based on (still based on 90's) but designed with a more contemporary feel.

From the design of the doctors badge I have started to create the entire branding for the doctors. I wanted something minimal but still with a slightly dated feel. This is why the italic sans serif has been chosen as well as the muted colours on the final design.

OUGD501 / Practical Research / 90's design

In the script there is mention of a computer in the doctors room, this meant the earliest I could set the scene is the 90's, I thought this would be interesting to set the scene in this era as I'd be designing graphic props to purposely look bad and tacky to suit that time period.

These are a few examples of the type of graphic props which would be in this scene (a gynaecologists & doctors room). I've also taken some screen shots of a gynaecologists scene in Friends of magazines, diagram posters, and the type of badges doctors wore as this was that time period.

OUGD501 / Practical Research (doctors surgery branding)

Research has been undertaken to look in to the branding of doctors surgeries. It's all very plain and neutral which is understandable as it has to be really legible for everyone and anyone.
